Travel Diary: Mount Congreve Gardens, County Waterford . 2 April 2017

" I love to visit botanical gardens. There is just so much to inspire and enjoy. The abundant colour, diversity of plants and flowers. None less than the immense 18th-century Congreve Georgian estate and gardens situated near the village of Kilmeaden in County Waterford, Ireland. Named one of “the great gardens of the World”, Mount Congreve House was home to six generations of Congreves, built in 1760 by the celebrated local architect John Roberts. The Gardens comprise of seventy acres of planted woodland, a walled garden and 16 kilometres of walkways. Overlooking the River Suir, Mount Congreve’s planted collection consists of thousands of different trees and shrubs, Rhododendrons, Camellias, Acer cultivars, conifers, climbers and herbaceous plants plus many more tender species contained in the Georgian glasshouse. I just loved these delphiniums that I photographed there, truly spectacular in silk”
