Meet the designer!

'

After finishing a degree in fashion and textiles NCAD Dublin, Irish designer Debbie Millington worked her way through the costume departments of Hollywood. For the past eighteen years, she has worked on various feature film productions including Star Wars, Moulin Rouge, King Arthur, The Green Knight, Love & Friendship, Brideshead Revisited, The Wind that Shakes the Barley, The Guard , Calvary and recently costume design assistant on Disneys ‘Disenchanted’.

“ Movie-making opened many doors and opportunities for me, learning new skills and working alongside great talents and celebrities from stage and screen. The costume department is always an exciting place to be, especially interesting in the early stages of preparation, researching various costume genres and fashion eras for the script and its characters. I love the initial weeks of ‘hunt and gathering‘, trawling market bazaars and shops for intriguing fabrics and haberdashery braids and trims. Filling notebooks with inspiring colours, textures and ideas. The variety and diversity is certainly what keeps my job stimulating ”

Debbie spent many years travelling every corner of the globe. Working in both film and fashion allowed her to combine her two loves, work and travel.

“ Everything I do and every place I have been, have influenced my designs and become an amalgamation of my life’s experiences. My style and perspective on life and the way in which I see things, is totally unique to me. Each one of us is inspired by different things, and for me these inevitably find their way into my work."

Now having started her own silk design business ,all her experiences both in travel and film have been channeled into her designs. Starting with a silk square, she has now extended her silk range into kaftan evening tops, silk pillowcase & eye mask sets and pyjamas. And more recently introduced a home interiors range - velvet cushions and silk lampshades.
